Conference on Religious Trauma
We’ve all been concerned by the recent pandemic, political upset, and now the war being waged by Russia against the Ukraine – but for those of us who grew up in fundamentalist religious homes, these issues can be deeply triggering because we were trained to interpret such events to mean that the end of the world (apocalypse, Armageddon) is at hand. For this reason, the Conference on Religious Trauma is both a necessary and timely resource.
In addition to returning Religious Trauma pioneers Dr. Marlene Winell and Dr. Darrel Ray, this year’s event will feature mental health clinicians and religious trauma survivors from diverse religious backgrounds aiming to educate about religious trauma syndrome and provide hope and help for recovery. Some of the topics for CORT2022 include:
Coercive control
Religion and sexuality
Fear of Hell
Navigating religious and nonreligious partnerships
Religion and the cultural genocide of indigenous peoples
Dangers of religious schooling and religious homeschooling
Religion and politics
Religion, politics, and racism
The collective trauma of religion.
